savePDF 2.1

SavePDF is a new (Clipboard) method to save filled-in PDF forms locally in Adobe Acrobat Reader. All 16,831 U.S. FedForms (issued by about 200 government agencies) are converted to savable by this method. To export, all the data are copied into the clipboard. To import, the contents of the clipboard is pasted into the form. It takes a few seconds to export or import the data (even for forms containing 1000's of fields). This method has a long list of advantages against other methods (including not only Server-Based, Persistent Global Variables, and Reader Extensions, but also the Save, Save As, Export, and Import features of the Acrobat full program). Some of the features are: (1) the data can be saved locally (no Internet connection, no risk of online or email data transfer); (2) in general, the data can be saved not only by form, but also by page or by any range of pages -- this is not just helpful but very important (especially if there is a common part in multiple savings from the same form and/or from multiple forms); (3) the saved data contains not only field values but also other properties (including text size, text font, and multi-line) -- this is very important (especially for doNotScroll fields); (4) all the data summary (date, time, form number, etc.) is included and visible in the exported code; (5) the saved data is stored in a very small string of code; (6) all data extracted by multiple savings from the same form (and/or from multiple forms) can be stored in the same file. Poppy

Poppy for Windows is a small utility that you can use on your Windows PC. It will notify you when you have mail waiting on the POP3 server of your Internet provider (or Internet providers). Poppy can check multiple POP3 servers and check for new messages at regular time intervals.

Poppy needs a working internet connection and is typically used in combination with an ‘always on’ internet connection, such as a cable or DSL connection. It can be used with a dial-up connection, but that is not very effective.

Once you have started Poppy, you will see an icon in the so-called system tray or taskbar notification area. In addition, you can maintain a blocklist as well as a list of friends (their mail will never be filtered) and customize the filtering with a variety of settings and plug-ins. The program automatically configures popular email clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape etc.) to work with the filter. Among many other options, you can change the aggressiveness of the filter, block certain attachment types, block specific senders and also add your own spam words to look for. Spamihilator does not delete the spam right away, but moves it to a recycle bin from where you can review it, restore items or permanently delete them. A very flexible and capable spam filtering system.

SpamBayes 1.04

The SpamBayes project is working on developing a statistical (commonly, although a little inaccurately, referred to as Bayesian) anti-spam filter, initially based on the work of Paul Graham. The major difference between this and other, similar projects is the emphasis on testing newer approaches to scoring messages. While most anti-spam projects are still working with the original graham algorithm, we found that a number of alternate methods yielded a more useful response. This is documented on the background page.

SpamBayes is not a single application. The core code is a message classifier, however there are several applications available as part of the SpamBayes project which use the classifier in specific contexts. For the most part, the current crop of applications all operate on the client side of things, however, a number of people have experimented with using SpamBayes on mail servers to classify incoming mail for multiple users. The table below outlines the main applications which are part of the SpamBayes distribution.

MailWasher Free

MailWasher Free is a spam detection and mail preview tool that allows you to check the mail on the server and delete any spam before you download it to your local computer. It can notify you when new mail arrives and automatically mark suspicious messages, so you can preview and delete them. There are 3 levels of spam detection, and you can specify your own filters. MailWasher also offers the option to exclude your friends from spam checking and check mail against public blacklists. The program requires you to create your own spam filters, without them, the spam detection is poor. If you want to create your own mail filters, give MailWasher a try. However, if you are looking for effective out-of-the-box spam filtering, you should look elsewhere. The free version is limited to one POP3 email account, and has several features disabled.

POPFile 0.22.4

POPFile is an email classification system, that automatically sorts your messages and fights spam. It acts as a proxy between your email program and the mail server, scanning all incoming mail and then marks the mail according to your settings. When you first install the program, it is dumb and does not perform any classification at all - it is designed to learn from your personal classifications and becomes more and more hands-off the longer you use it. It keeps a history of all email messages that pass through the system and then allows you to classify each message as good, spam or any other criteria (personal, work, important etc.). These criteria are called "Buckets" and they are similar to virtual mail folders. The mail in each bucket will be tagged in a special way (subject, header), so you can instruct your email program to process it according to your preferences. POPFile does not delete any email on its own, however you can instruct your email program to act upon messages that are tagged as spam (or anything else) and have them be deleted or send to a different mail folder. The program offers an additional Quarantine option that can wrap the message in a container, allowing you to get an idea of the content, without actually opening any attachments or images of the original mail. POPfile uses Naive Bayes classification, which is highly effective an learns from your instructions. Overall, POPfile provides great flexibility and accurate filtering, however it does require at least some basic understanding of email and POP accounts in order to use it effectively.

Splitting is a simple file splitting tool that allows you to split a large file into multiple pieces. It comes configured with some of the common media sizes (Floppy, CD etc.) and can also use custom sizes. The program can create a batch file, that can later join the split files.
